Trabzon Branch President of the Chamber of Civil Engineers, Ibrahim Usta, emphasized their exhaustion from repeatedly saying "we told you so" regarding floods and landslides, stressing the need for serious planning in valleys. He stated that landslide maps should be prepared, and planning should be done accordingly, highlighting the importance of this issue, which they have reiterated multiple times.
In a written statement regarding the flood disasters in the Black Sea region, Usta pointed out that it is often forgotten that the Black Sea region is the most rainfall-prone area in Turkey. He mentioned that unplanned construction and the continued production of residential and living areas in unsuitable locations persist.
He emphasized the need to first identify existing constructions posing a danger and take necessary precautions. If necessary, constructions should be relocated from the region. The Black Sea Region constantly experiences such disasters. Resisting to learn from these disasters carries the highest cost. We hear many statements after each event. However, these incidents requiring radical solutions are often forgotten a few months later. They only come to mind for the authorities until the next disaster occurs.
